Irritated Serial Kisser: Im okay with sexual content

Irritated Serial Kisser: I`m okay with sexual contentEmraan Hashmi rose to fame not only through his acting but also his lip lock scenes with almost every actress opposite him in his film - the reason why he was tagged as the serial kisser.

However, the actor is now irritated with the tag.

"I don't have any problem with sexual content films because of which this name has been coined. But this name is very irritating.

If this name is changed, I will do these films throughout my life. I would rather have the name serial killer than serial kisser," Emraan told reporters here.

The 32-year-old actor has locked lips in films like "Murder", "Zeher", "Aksar", "Gangster" and "Crook" among others.

Funny goof up on 'Murder 2' sets

Pack-up is the word actors want to hear after shooting for long hours. During a short break while shooting for Murder 2, director Mohit Suri said, "Jimmy pack up." (Jimmy is a particular kind of camera).

Emraan Hashmi misheard it as: "Emi pack up'. So without wasting a second he left in his car.

When the actor was needed for the next shot, it was way over half an hour and Emi was nearly home! The two couldn't stop laughing when they realised the goof up.

Is Minnishas hot nurse look inspired from Hollywood?

Is Minnisha`s hot nurse look inspired from Hollywood?Minnisha Lamba's nurse look in the promotional video of Bheja Fry 2 has been inspired by Darryl Hannah's look in Kill Bill Vol 1.

The actress felt that styling on similar lines was just apt. But Minissha had a tough time finding a nurse's cap similar to one Darryl has donned in the film.

The head cap worn by Darryl is a style statement.

It was very fashionable and different compared to the caps worn by Indian nurses.

With difficulty Minissha found a cap that was similar to the Kill Bill star.

Ekta Kapoor inspires Minissha Lamba

Minissha Lamba, who plays a reality TV show producer in "Bheja Fry 2", says she took inspiration from Ekta Kapoor to prepare for her character and dedicates it to the TV tsarina.

"I was inspired by Ekta, I thought of her when I was conceptualising this character because everybody knows the success story but the hard work that one puts in is unknown," Minissha told reporters here Tuesday.

"Sometimes it happens that you are just a few steps away from success but you fail. You come with a value system but end up compromising. It is like you are being tested all the time. I really took inspiration from that phase. So I wanted to dedicate this character to a woman who revolutionised the television industry, in fact, she has made the television industry in India," she added.

The actress was here to promote "Bheja Fry 2" which releases Friday and was accompanied by her co-star Vinay Pathak.

Although she would be a reality show producer in the film, the actress said she wouldn't mind being a part of one. "I wouldn't mind being a part of a reality show but it should be appealing," she said.

Vidya was stunned to see Madras in Mumbai!

Vidya was stunned to see Madras in Mumbai! For 'Dirty Pictures', Chennai of the '80s has been recreated in Film City

Recreating bygone decades seems to have become Milan Luthria's forte. In his last film Once Upon a Time In Mumbaai, he transported the audience to the Bombay of the '80s.

In his next, Dirty Pictures, he has recreated Chennai of the '80s in Film City. DP is based on the life of southern sensation Silk Smitha and stars Vidya Balan, Nasseruddin Shah and Tusshar Kapoor.

The director informs, "Right now, we are in full Chennai mode. Wherever we look, we see people dressed in lungis. Tamil posters adorn our walls. We start our day by having idlis to get into the mode."

Throwing light on the kind of R&D that went, he adds, "The production designer, the art team and one of my assistants did an extensive tour of Chennai, Mysore, Pondicherry, Ooty and Hyderabad for two months.

They came back with 2,000 photographs.

These are the places that reflect the flavour we are trying to replicate. We bought books and watched Hindi and Tamil films shot in the '80s. We put all that together and made a colour palette for the film."

He further adds, "It's not possible to shoot a film like this on real location because a lot has changed geographically. You will find new hoardings, building exteriors; malls and multiplexes have come up."

The sets have huge cut-outs of Naseer, who plays a Tamil movie star. "We created two cafes and a sari centre.

We had to paint old taxis and auto rickshaws. We had to change all the number plates. It was Madras then, not even Chennai," he adds.

Having done a period film like Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai was he better equipped this time around? "Yes, unlike last time, we were prepared better for this. We did pre-production of seven months. The team is fairly experienced now having done one film."

Milan is happy about the feedback he has received. "When Vidya walked on to sets, she was zapped. She didn't feel that she was in Mumbai. Even a couple of producers who dropped in were stunned."

Why Asin calls herself a lucky girl?

Why Asin calls herself a lucky girl?Southern beauty Asin Thottumkal, who stepped into Bollywood three years back and has already worked with bigwigs like Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, says that she finds herself lucky to have got such opportunities.

"I do find myself lucky because in the film industry there are a lot of factors that probably result in success.

You need talent and discipline but somewhere you need to have that X factor also. What that X factor is, whether that's luck, or god's grace or the wishes of all the people around you, that is open to interpretation.

"But I think that that one factor that helps is definitely with me otherwise I wouldn't have got all these opportunities to work with these bigwigs of the industry," Asin told.

The 25-year-old has worked with Aamir in "Ghajini" and with Salman in two films - "London Dreams" and "Ready". She is now geared up to work opposite Akshay Kumar in "Houseful 2".

Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb praises Javed Akhtar

Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb praises Javed AkhtarJaved Akhtar's efforts to secure rights for songwriters, composers and authors in India was commended by Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb ?

Javed Akhtar's fight for lyricists' royalty has now taken an international turn. The writer and social activist addressed the World Copyright Summit (WCS) in Brussels last week. He spoke about how the author's rights are neglected in India.

Legendary singer Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees group (that embodied the disco era of the '70s) is the president of the Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers and chairperson of the summit. He commended Akhtar in his battle to give creators their rights.

Big steps

Gibbs stated at the event, "I have witnessed with great pleasure that India has taken major steps forward towards the recognition of authors' rights. And I salute Javed Akhtar, who is here in the audience, and who has led the fight for this recognition."

While Javed refrained from commenting, a source from the WCS said, "Javed was interviewed by fellow composer Simon Darlow who is a board member of the Performing Right Society For Music (the UK branch of the World Copyright Organisation) about his career in India.

He was also asked about the potential amendments to copyright law, which will see royalties flow back to songwriters, composers and authors.

Akhtar has taken it upon himself to launch the fight for authors in India and has faced a lot of opposition. He accused the Indian Performing Rights Society (IPRS) of using the rights of authors and composers for the benefit of studios, cinemas and producers.

Starting point

Invited by the WCS to tell his story, Javed proclaimed at the event, "My troubles started when I applied for a position as a member of the board of the IPRS.

I understood that it was urgent to convince the government to amend the law so that they protect the authors. Today, we are about to reach our dream. The law will be passed in the coming months."

Javed's interview was well received. Guy Fletcher, chairman of PRS For Music said, "Javed enabled us to better understand the injustices Indian creators have been suffering."

Esha Deol on her growing proximity to Abhay DeolBy Subhash K Jha

The Deols and Hema Malini’s daughter are coming together. Hema’s daughters Esha and Ahana are in fact very close to their stepbrothers Sunny and Bobby Deol. And the only reason this fact is kept hidden away from public view is because “she” wouldn’t like it. That’s how the first Mrs Dharmendra, Prakash is addressed.

While Sunny and Bobby keep their affections for their half-sisters discreetly away from the public eye, one Deol who has come out openly in support of Esha and Ahana is Abhay Deol.

Esha in fact gets along like a house on fire with Abhay. The two spend a lot of time together, bonding unconsciously building a bridge between Dharmendra’s two families.

Says a source, “Abhay and Esha are constantly in touch. She has in fact taken charge of his fitness regime. Abhay is very lazy about going to the gym.

Esha drags him to the gym and makes him work out. She wants him to build on his muscles while Abhay thinks the body is not quite the acting tool that he would like to use. They’reconstantly arguing over his laidback attitude to physical fitness. ”

When asked Esha was candid about her closeness to Abhay. “We’ve always been very close from our school days. I guess because now we’re grown up and known names people want to know about us. ”

Esha admits she has been helping Abhay with his gym regime. “I do take him for wor-outs. It’s always fun doing things with Abhay. We share a lovely bond. Like any brother and sister. We stay two minutes away from one another. So as and when we want to chill together we meet up. But we keep in touch constantly. ”

John to join Sajids Housefull 2 team in London later

John to join Sajid`s `Housefull 2` team in London laterBy Subhash K Jha

The Housefull team left for London last week but without John Abraham. He will join the Housefull 2 gang a week later.

Apparently Sajid had earlier planned to hire a private jet to take the whole Housefull 2 crew to England from Mumbai. But now with various members opting for scattered travel, Sajid has no options but to cancel the jet plans.

Sajid who is in the middle of implementing this daredevilish co-ordinating stunt hardly has time to pause to talk about his problem.

“Kya Karen? These are all busy stars. We can’t have them over in London and then have them sitting idle waiting for actors with whom they are to do combination shots.

And losing precious shooting dates in London means losing out on permission to shoot in places like Leicester Square where getting permission again is impossible. It’s a very tricky situation. And it’s the biggest challenge I’ve faced in my career as a producer. ”

Getting the stars’s dates synchronized is an an ordeal for Nadiadwala. “We are trying to accommodate the actors in different groups in the shooting schedule so that no one has to sit idle. Let’s see how we do it. ”

Ranveer Singh: No sex please!

Ranveer Singh: No sex please!Ranveer Singh fought shy of doing a sexually explicit scene in Bijoy Nambiar's 'Shaitan'

Guess who was going to play the wild and extreme KC is Bijoy Nambiar's Shaitan? Ranveer Singh!

However, the Band Baaja Baraat actor opted out due to the boldness of the character and only then did Gulshan Devaiah stepped in.

A well-placed source in the film crew reveals, "Ranveer was like any other struggling actor at that time. He hadn't signed BBB then.

He was one of the first guys auditioned and selected for the role. Bejoy immediately decided to cast him. He loved the energy and spontaneity RS brought in front of the camera."

Can't do it

However, a sexually explicit scene made him change his mind. "Ranveer loved the part and agreed to do it.

However, he chickened out later on as his character was supposed to be introduced in the movie in a sexually explicit scene. The actor told Nambiar he wouldn't be comfortable debuting with such a bold scene.

His family also had their reservations against the role, " the source adds. The scene was later changed and the film's salaciousness was toned down a bit.

The source further adds, "Though it was a risky call but I am glad that Ranveer took it because it worked in his favour.

Everyone has his or her own dos and don'ts. Ranveer comes from a conservative family. Moreover, he wanted to do a solo hero film. He then waited for the right film to come his way and made a great start with BBB."

Ranveer Singh and Bijoy remained unavailable for comment.

Not A Love Story: Mahies photo shoot stopped!

Not A Love Story: Mahie`s photo shoot stopped!A photography session of RGV's film based on Maria Susairaj was abruptly stopped

The society members of Dheeraj Solitaire Building in Malad disrupted the photo shoot of Ram Gopal Varma's Not A Love Story (starring Mahie Gill, Deepak Dobriyal and Ajay Gehi) at one of their flats on Saturday.

For those who don't know, this is the same building where Maria Susairaj (on whose life the film is based) lived and allegedly murdered Neeraj Grover in 2008.

Apparently, the entire cast and crew of the film was asked to leave the venue in the middle of their shoot by the building members.

A source from the building informs, "The building authorities allowed RGV to shoot the entire movie at one of the flats in the building, but strangely, stopped the crew to do a photo shoot for four hours on Saturday."

Subhash Dhankar, Maria's broker, who also helped the crew get the permission to use the building premises, divulges the reason for the society's strange behavior.

"Yes, the society created an issue over the photo shoot. It was a four-hour shoot. We had done the set up. The entire cast including Mahie, Deepak and Ajay, the photographer and the makeup artists were present."

It is all about money

"The society authorities barged in and told us to leave the premises immediately. I tried to make them understand, but they weren't willing to budge.

They wanted more money from the producer. The entire day got wasted. They couldn't even postpone the shoot because Mahie's relative is unwell and she couldn't be there the next day.

A studio was immediately booked and the shoot was completed, " he further added

Remorseless Maria

Interestingly, Subhash, who does a cameo as a police inspector in the film, had met Maria just after she committed the crime and also, got her house painted again.

"I met Maria after she had killed Neeraj and wasn't yet caught. When I later found out that she has done the crime I was amazed to see that there was no sign of fear or remorse on her face."

Karisma to comeback in Vikram Bhatts Dangerous Ishq

Karisma to comeback in Vikram Bhatt`s Dangerous IshqBy Subhash K Jha

Vikram Bhatt's next 3-D thriller Dangerous Ishq just got a lot more dangerous. Apparently Karisma Kapoor is all set to make comeback in Bhatt's film.

Bhatt is known to have a way with leading ladies—he convinced Sushmita Sen to turn actress after she was crowned Miss Universe. And now Vikram has apparently convinced Karisma Kapoor to make a comeback with his slick 3D thriller Dangerous Ishq.

Karisma whose last screen appearance was in Suneel Darshan's Mere Jeevan Saathi in 2002 (where she played an obsessive woman stalking Akshay Kumar) has been in search of the right role to return to cinema with.

She all but said yes to Onir's offer to do a role in I Am. But the deal fell through for monetary reasons. Onir had to change the character of the female victim of child abuse to a male.

Vikram Bhatt was determined to get Karisma…at any price. He could afford it after Haunted which has become the highest-grossing horror film in India of all times.

Laughs Bhatt, “Yes Haunted had made a huge profit I cannot deny that. And yes I can afford to pay my stars well. It's a powerful role for a 30-plus actress who is stunning and talented. ”

Apparently the producers want to announce Karisma's comeback in their film in a big way.

Says a source close to the project, “Vikram has met Karisma several times. She loves the script of Dangerous Ishq. It has an author-backed role for her with many shades. Just the kind of character she has been looking for. She has made up her mind to do the film.

Reveals Shilpa, "Shamita is now entering another phase in her life and career. She is now heading to London for a six-month course in interior designing. We all felt this was the right move for her to make."

Significantly, Shamita moves to another career at a time when Shilpa herself has taken a sabbatical of sorts from acting. However, in her case, it is voluntary.

Explains Shilpa, "At the moment, I'm playing the most satisfying role of my life - that of an housewife. Films were never the be-all-end-all of my life.

Right now I find the idea of looking after my home far more exciting and challenging than rushing off to studios early morning."

Siblings don't make it?

Amitabh Bachchan in case of split personality

Amitabh Bachchan in case of split personalityAmitabh Bachchan's flamboyant 'Bbuddah' is a cause of worry for Prakash Jha's 'Aarakshan'

Amitabh Bachchan's two back-to-back releases Bbuddah - Hoga Terra Baap and Aarakshan are caught in a combat of sorts. The two films portray the mega-star in absolutely contrasting roles.

In BHTP, which is being produced by AB Corps, he plays a defiant anti-social rebel, who thinks he is still 22. While in Aarakshan, which is being directed by Prakash Jha, he plays a senior respectable professor!

Jha is now worried that his film, which deals with a serious social issue, would suffer if thrown against the flamboyant bachchanalia of his character in Bbuddah.

A friend of senior Bachchan says, "Jha does have a disadvantage.

Once the veteran actor is shown as a bad boy having all the fun in the world in the Puri Jagannath movie, the audiences would find it difficult to adapt to his ideologically motivated part in Aarakshan.

Jha's team fears that BHTB might still be playing in theatres when their movie releases."

Clash of interest

To avoid a clash of interest, the director has now suspended all the marketing and promotional events related to his movie.

Says a source, "Prakash has made up his mind to keep his movie completely away from the other.

He also turned down the suggestion to attach Aarakshan's trailer to Bbuddah since he felt it would create a completely undesirable impression in the audiences' minds."

When contacted the director said, "We will cease all promotions of the film until after the release of Bbuddah. Both the movies feature Amitji in diametrically opposite roles. We don't want any confusion or clash of interest."

Gag order

Apparently, Jha has also requested Big B not to make any mention of his movie in any media event until Bbuddah is released.

However, the filmmaker shot down reports about his refusal to attach the trailor of his film to the other but revealed he has spoken to the makers of Double Dhamaal to attach the trailer of his movie.

Singing the blues

There's also buzz that Prakash has cut down the proposal to have Big B sing for his flick. Retorts Jha, "Not at all! Amitji is certainly not singing in my film. This is not that kind of a film where his character can sing."

Too many misconceptions about Islam:Arshad Warsi

Too many misconceptions about Islam:Arshad WarsiBollywood actor Arshad Warsi feels that there are too many misconceptions about Islam and that 90 percent of what people know about the religion is a myth.

"Islam is a very nice religion, but it's been misinterpreted very badly. Quran means a book to be read; it doesn't claim to be a holy book, " Arshad told.

He said, "Ninety percent of what people say about Islam is a myth. People say that in Islam you get a divorce by just saying the word talaaq three times. All that is rubbish. It is not that you say the word three times and marriage is over."

Explaining the divorce process, he said: "You go to the court, say talaaq there once. Then you have to live together (with your wife) for a month...and again you go back to the court and say the word again and then again stay together for another month.

Even then your problems are not resolved, then you go to the court again and say talaaq again. That's how it happens. Even after that you have to give maintenance to your divorced wife."

Arshad also said that the four marriages concept is not exactly the way it has been perceived so far.

"It's not that you can marry four women. You can't get married again without the permission of your first wife. Half of the people don't know the truth about Islam, " said the actor who is married to Maria Goretti, a Christian, and they have two children, a son named Zeke Warsi and a baby girl named Zene Zoe Warsi.

The 43-year-old actor however says he is not a very religious person.

"I'm not religious. I don't believe in rituals. However, I'm not an atheist. I believe in god. I believe that there is a power and I believe that all the religions are just different roads of reaching that one power. But those roads are made by people that I don't like, " said the actor, who made his debut in 1996 with "Tere Mere Sapne".

"I go everywhere, I celebrate everything. My kids if you see, you'll see them more as Christians as they go to church very often. I have no problems with that, " he added.

Arshad, popular for his role as Circuit in "Munnabhai MBBS" and its sequel "Lage Raho... Munnabhai", is right now looking forward to the release of his comedy film "Double Dhamaal" slated for June 24.

Is Dhyneshwari Express similar to Nache Mayuri?

Is `Dhyneshwari Express` similar to `Nache Mayuri`?The Marathi film is based on a true story of a girl who lost her arm

Remember Nache Mayuri, a dance flick made about 25 years ago on the real story of Sudha Chandran, who had lost her leg in an accident but went on to become a dancing queen nevertheless?

Marathi film producer, Anil Pathyane, has followed the lead and churned out yet another film on the same lines, Dhyneshwari Express.

The film is based on Shreya Sen, a young architecture student who lost her right hand in a train accident, but now with her sheer grit and determination is all set to appear for her exams, replacing her right arm with her right leg!

The story goes as

About a year ago, Shreya was travelling from Mumbai to Kolkata to attend a marriage, with her family. Due to the ongoing agitation at that time, the Maoists had removed the fishplates on a track near Kolkata leading to the derailment of her train.

Though her parents and younger brother managed to escape, the poor girl was so badly injured that she had to be hospitalised for a month and a half, besides loosing one of her limbs.

However now, after fighting all odds, Shreya will appear for her architecture exams as she has mastered to use her leg in place of her arm.

Seeing herself

The Bengali girl, who saw the film on Friday, said that, though the producer had only informed and not taken her written permission for the movie, she is happy with the results.

What she liked the most is the sensitivity with which actress Manjusha Ghodse has enacted her in the film.

Also, Manjusha, who met Shreya only at the trial of the film, confessed that it would have helped her a lot as an actress if she had been allowed by the producer or director to meet Shreya before she shot for the movie.

DE is written and directed by Prakash Panchal and stars Ashwini Ekbote, Anand Abhyankar, Sharad Ponkshe and Girish Oak besides Manjusha.

Anil-Ajay get set for the combat of their lives

Anil-Ajay get set for the combat of their livesBy Subhash K Jha

Ajay Devgn and Anil Kapoor will be doing a man-to-man combat sequence for Priyadarshan's Tezz. And it isn't easy as it sounds. Both the stars need to be in their best physical shape to shoot the action sequence which according to a source will throw an even meaner punch than the Salman Khan-Sonu Sood fight in Dabangg.

At this point of time it isn't very clear whether Anil and Ajay will be bare-chested for the fight to finish between the protagonist and antagonist in Tezz. What has emerged from the whole mystery that shrouds the high- flying action sequences in Tezz recently shot in Scotland, is that the piece de resistance, the one-on-one fight between Anil and Ajay, has been put off for later.

Tezz producer Ratan Jain who is in Eorope, admits the Ajay-Anil thing action sequence will be shot later. “At the moment we're shooting other really complex action sequences on trains cars and helicopters with Ajay, Anil, Sameera Reddy and Suniel Shetty.

Boman Irani and Mohanlal have completed their work and gone back. Zayed Khan was here. He is gone back to Mumbai. Kangna will be joining us soon. This is a schedule that got postponed earlier due to inclement weather. They are all action sequences. Yes, we're shooting the big Ajay-Anil action sequence on a set representing a tunnel in Mumbai. ”

Hopefully by the time the crucial action sequence is shot Anil Kapoor will be in a position to give Ajay Devgn tit for tat.

And then, it happened to me, I realized it's something you have to experience personally…it's a profound and wonderful change in your life, which I can't describe in words.

What was the most difficult thing you faced during pregnancy?
When I was pregnant, I was told to be on bed rest for sometime. It was very difficult for me because I am not used to staying home and was badly wanting to go out. So, it was a challenge in itself.

Did the excitement of new motherhood bring you to launch a book on first-time mothers?
I had read a lot of books during my pregnancy. But most of them were targeted at an audience abroad…US or whatever. So, this created a void.

There were people giving you lots of advice, recommended books and what to expect during pregnancy. But I had not read any Indian books on pregnancy. I wish I had read Mamma Mania while I was pregnant.

But I read it soon after I delivered my baby boy (in March) and found it a very practical guide to all mothers, especially, first-time mothers. Shabia (Ravi Walia) has not crossed over anything…everything you need to know is there.

Who suggested Harun as the name of your child?
Harun was the only name we agreed on for our baby. Else, he (Ranvir Shorey) was not agreeing to what I suggested and vice-versa. Harun in Sanskrit means hope. Also, (Salman) Rushdie's Haroun and the Sea of Stories is a book that we both read and laughed.

So my son's name is inspired from that book…there Haroun is a 12-year-old boy adventurer. Again, Harun al-Rashid was a very famous king of Baghdad centuries ago. In the Old Testament, there's a derivative of the name. So, actually it's a panel of names.

How is Ranvir as a father?
Ranvir is very excited about the baby. He is such a good dad…he is changing diapers, putting Harun to sleep, burping him…he is really good at all that. Thank God, I am very lucky.

Will motherhood affect your career as an actor?
No, I don't think my choice of films will change because I have a baby. Obviously, my child will always be in the back of my mind when I am out. It sounds funny for me to say this as motherhood is just sinking in. As long as I get interesting roles and interesting films, I will continue to do them.

What is taking so long for your film Iti Mrinalini to release in India?
It's unfortunate that the film has still not released in India. But it's very exciting that Iti Mrinalini won two awards at the New York Indian Film Festival this year. A small budget film is always so difficult to release, get money for publicity, etc.

So, I am hoping that awards will generate certain interest in people about the film and they will want to watch it. The film will be released both in Hindi and Bengali….it's about life of an actress.

Esha Deol gets candid about her relationship with Abhay Deol

Esha Deol gets candid about her relationship with Abhay DeolEsha Deol gets candid about her special relationship with cousin Abhay Deol

While Sunny and Bobby Deol keep their affections for their half-sisters, Esha and Ahana Deol discreetly away from the public eye, Abhay Deol has come out openly in support of them.

The duo spend a lot of time together and sources inform that they get along like a house on fire.

Says a source, "They are constantly in touch. She has in fact, taken charge of his fitness regime. Abhay is very lazy about going to the gym. She wants him to build on his muscles.

They're constantly arguing over his laidback attitude towards physical fitness."

Esha admits she has been helping Abhay with his gym regime. "I do take him for workouts. It's always fun doing things with him. We share a lovely bond like any brother and sister.

We stay two minutes away from one another, so when we want to chill together we meet up. We keep in touch constantly."

She adds, "We've always been very close from our school days. I guess because now we're grown up and known names people want to know about us."

Adnan dumps Pak: Ill stay in tent but wont leave India

Adnan dumps Pak: I`ll stay in tent but won`t leave IndiaSinger-composer bids goodbye to Pakistan, his country of origin, saying he'll stay in a tent if he has to, but he won't leave this city

Now that the High Court has granted Adnan Sami permission to leave the country -- the singer's world tour begins this week -- Sami has taken the radical decision to gradually ease ties with Pakistan, his country of birth.

This, despite the fact that Pakistani artistes like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Meera have been in a spot of trouble in India. More recently, Salma Agha and her daughter even raised a stink over an alleged MMS leak.

Breaking his silence after the Mumbai High Court's verdict, Sami, who is a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, but lives in Mumbai said, "I don't wish to be seen as one more troublemaker from Pakistan. But the truth is, I don't see myself as belonging to any country but India anymore."

In fact, said Sami, he was offended by the suggestion that he may flee India while performing at concerts abroad, by transferring assets to international accounts. "Kahan jaaonga main? Yeh mera mulk hai. (Where will I go? This is my land.)

I don't understand why people are constantly referring to my Pakistani antecedents. It is not important where I come from, it's about where I now belong. My career, home and wife are in Mumbai." Sami intends to invite his son Azaan to Mumbai.

"Azaan wants to be a musician like me. We'll work together in Mumbai. His mother (actress Zeba Bakhtiar) too, was close to the Indian entertainment industry. My mother spends most of her time here (in Mumbai). Let the Indian government confiscate my property -- we'll stay in a tent and pay taxes. But we won't allow anyone to drive us out of Mumbai, " says the musician.

Adnan now leaves for concerts in Dubai, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. "I have never felt happier. With the High Court lifting a ban on my travel a weight has lifted from my shoulder.

Now when I perform on stage I will feel like a free man. But wherever I am, I can't wait to return home to India."

From Pakistan, with love

Yesteryear actress Salma Agha and her daughter Zarah Khan met Mumbai police commissioner Arup Patnaik last week about an alleged MMS clip, which was circulated on YouTube.

Zarah alleged that former boyfriend Ruslaan Mumtaz, who is the son of Salma Agha's close friend Anjana Mumtaz, released the clip that reportedly showed her kissing another man.

Zarah claimed that the woman in the clip isn't her. Salma Agha is a singer and actress from Pakistan who sang and acted in Indian films in the '80s. She lives in Lokhandwala.

MF Husain was planning something big with Madhuri

MF Husain was planning something big with MadhuriBy Subhash K Jha

Death, when it struck, snatched away plans of a very prestigious project that the iconic M. F Husian planned to direct. And it was Madhuri Dixit, his “original” Bollywood muse, and not her successors (Tabu, Amrita Rao, Vidya Balan, Anushka Sharma) that Husain wanted to return to for this ambitious project encapsuling the entire history of Indian cinema.

Speaking from Denver Madhuri admits, “Yes, Husain Saab had called about a month-and-a-half back to discuss a project on 100 Years Of Indian cinema. As usual he was very excited about this latest brainchild. His zest for life and his ideas always made me feel older than him. ”

Taking a deep breath Madhuri sighs, “It's very difficult to believe Husain Saab is gone. It' Is Like Losing Someone Very Near To You If as you say I was some part of his huge legacy then I am very very proud of being part of what Husain Saab created. He is certainly someone who made a difference to my life. ”

In Madhuri's home in the US, M F Husian is a household name. “Even my children knows about him. When I told my son Husain Saab is no more he was like, 'Aw Mom, is he really gone?'

Madhuri remembers the bare-feet bare-souled artiste's illimitable energy. “ Husain Saab called himself a nomad. And he was a really restless soul. I remember when we were shooting Gaja Gamini he'd often disappear from the sets. We'd be like, 'Where is Husain Saab?' He'd be all over the place with his ideas. ”

The gamine-like Dixit-Nene admits the movie that Husain made was a brain-teaser. “ In Gaja Gamini I knew I was not doing a regular normal run-of-the-mill film.

He wanted it to such a cinema where one could take any frame treat it like an individual painting. It was a tough role. Husain Saab wanted me to portray very facets of womanhood with all my mystique and charm. I don't know if I succeeded in putting across even a part of his ideas. ”

Most of all Madhuri remembers the 90-plus icon's gusto for existence. “He was restless and fidgety. Always on the move. I was tempted to tell him, 'Husain Saab, slow down, so I can ctach up with you. '

My association started with him when he saw me in Hum Aapke Hain Koun. He saw it umpteenth times. I guess he liked my screen presence. I learnt a lot from my interaction with him. ”

Trying to contain her emotions Madhuri remembers her final conversation with Husaan. “The last time I spoke to him was more than a month back. He was so excited about that project on 100 Years Of Cinema.

He would always be filled with excitement and never get tired of his work. I think his work was his stress-buster. Most of us need a break from our work, no matter how much we love it. Not Husain Saab. ”

Diplomatically evading the issue of Husain's enforced exile away from India Madhuri finally bursts out, “Whenever we spoke he was so charged. He would get sad only when he talked about not being home in India. Husain Saab was one of the more liberal people I knew. He believed in all religions and he experienced life to the fullest. Yes, I'll miss him. ”

Kay Kay had his apprehensions about Bheja Fry 2

Kay Kay had his apprehensions about Bheja Fry 2Bheja Fry 2 director Sagar Ballary, who directed the actor, admits there were apprehensions

Sagar Ballary's Bheja Fry 2 could well apply to the director's own experience on the sets with actor Kay Kay Menon, reveal sources.

Vinay Pathak, who was in the first part, shared a fabulous rapport with the director, but Menon was often sceptical of Ballary's direction. And he made no attempt to hide it. "From the start, Kay Kay, who is a perfectionist, had issues about with his character's actions.

As the film progressed, Kay Kay's misgivings got worse. He'd frequently question Sagar on camera angles, placement and shots.

Things came to a head when Sagar's crew left for Indonesia to shoot on board a cruise ship. Kay Kay was horrified when he found that that a 30-day shoot was condensed into 12. He made his displeasure very clear. In fact, throughout the shooting, Kay Kay was apprehensive about how the film would turn out."

Ballary admits there were problems with Menon. "You can't blame him. He has never worked with a director as young and inexperienced as me.

My only claim to fame was Bheja Fry, which everyone said was a ripoff of a foreign film. Moreover, he had to embrace the part of a suave tycoon that Rajat Kapoor had earlier played. Yes, there were issues. We shot in an atmosphere of mutual caution."

Ballary also admits that Menon objected to his working style. " My narrative style and the way I used the camera zapped him. Ranvir Shourey had reacted the same way during the first film.

But last week, when Kay Kay saw the film, his apprehensions were washed away. He told he was very happy with the end result and admitted he was wrong in his apprehensions." All's well that ends well, we suppose.

Ismail Darbars charge unprecedented & preposterous

Ismail Darbar`s charge `unprecedented & preposterous`The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has dismissed as "unprecedented and preposterous" Indian music composer Ismail Darbar's charge that A.R. Rahman "bought" his Oscars for "Slumdog Millionaire" in 2009.

"It is not unusual for an individual to express the view that Academy members selected the wrong recipient for a particular award, but to charge that a win was achieved by underhanded means is unprecedented and preposterous, " the Oscar panel stated Friday.

"We are not familiar with Ismail Darbar or with the evidence, if any has been offered, on which he is basing his assertion that A.R. Rahman received his Academy Awards through bribery of 'Academy officials, '" Academy publicist Teni Melidonian said in an e-mail to us.

"When we first became aware of the charge last week we regarded it as too ludicrous to require an official comment, " she said.

"For the record, voting for the Academy Awards is conducted under such stringently controlled conditions that it would simply not be possible for an 'Academy official, ' even if he or she were inclined to do so, to set aside the vote of the artists who make up the organization's membership, " the panel said.

"Darbar is evidently not aware that the ballots for both music categories are handled and processed directly by the offices of PricewaterhouseCoopers, " it said.

The envelopes containing the winning achievements are prepared by two executives of that firm and never leave their custody until they are opened onstage in full view of the world, the statement noted.

In 2009, Rahman did India proud by winning two Oscars - for the best original score for "Slumdog Millionaire" as well as for the best original song "Jai ho" for the same movie.

But according to an Indian media report Darbar said: "I just don't understand how the music for that movie ('Slumdog Millionaire') won the prestigious award.

"What was Oscar-worthy about it? Nothing. I would have been happy, had he won it for films like 'Roja' or 'Bombay'. He did not deserve it. And, I know that it has been bought, " Darbar was quoted as saying.

Shabana Azmi: M F Husain was not anti-Hindu at all

Shabana Azmi: M F Husain was not anti-Hindu at allBy Subhash K Jha

“Husain Saab would always have a place in my heart. I learnt a lot from him. As for his flamboyance, why not? Why should a true artiste always be expected to be in rags? Husain really looked after his entire family, his children and grandchildren.

If you tell me to describe M F Husain in one sentence I'd say he's a product of India's composite culture. He grew up in a deeply cosmopolitan household. His mother used to wear a traditional nine-yard saree. He made Madhuri wear the nine-yard saree in Gaja Gamini.

All the aspersions that were cast on him for being anti-Hindu were so completely baseless. I am deeply saddened and surprised by Husain Saab's death. It's hard to associate old age and death with him. He had such childlike qualities about him that I had somehow convinced myself he would remain a child forever. I remember he had got a cheque for Rs100 crores for his paintings.

He had come running to my house to show it like a child who had just got the Playstation …He was an inconoclast and a genius. But more than that he was a wonderful humanbeing. And in spite of being so much older than me he was a very close friend. First he was my father (the late poet Kaifi Azmi)'s friend, then mine.

Husain Saab was in the habit of walking in and out of my house at any hour regardless of whether we were home or not. He did a portrait of Abba (father Kaifi Azmi) and two huge paintings that occupy a pride of place in my homes…In whichever city we met up he would take to the inner-side of the cities, the dhabas etc.

In Kolkata when I was shooting for The City Of Joy he announced he was coming to pick me up. He made a painting of me as Kali because I was shooting in Kolkata. That too is up on my wall.

Every time he visited and we were not at home he would write one or two lines and sketch something. So I'd always tease him that I didn't know whether we should be happy or sad that when we were not at home when he visited. Because we got those precious notes and sketches. They're more valuable than the actual paintings because they're personalized.

I've kept all of them…I'd request Husain Saab to please explain art to me. Main art nahin samajhti hoon. He used say, 'You've to do nothing. Dekho aur mahsoos karo. ' He had this small psychedelically-painted car. He'd put me into it. He would take me to Grant Road and Bhindi Bazar. And he would say, 'Yeh dekho. Zindagi ko dekho, samjho aur mehsoos karo. '…He had taken me to Dubai for an exhibition. He had painted down from the first floor to the ground. The effect was so dramatic.

The series he has done on Kerala was amazing. We had these fantastic conversations on surrealism. He said in surrealism the idea comes before the painting and that would always be de-limiting.

He said, for the painter a painting was about throwing pain on the canvas and then trying to create contrasts. That line has lived with me. You know, people said Husain Saab was a very savvy man, that he knew how to market himself. But I feel his wisdom came from the knowledge that he had about the art of living.

He came from a very humble background. He used to paint film posters. He was about 11 when his father discovered that very special talent in him…. I've had long conversations on art cinema and life with him. The one thing that Husain and I agreed on was the film today continues to depend too emphatically on the narrative of story.

But film is such a strong audio-visual medium. It needs to go beyond narrative into an area where an experience can be created merely through visuals.

In Gaja Gamini I didn't even try to understand what he was trying to do. It was enough for me that he was trying to take cinema to another level and that I was part of that experience…. Husain loved this country so much and yet he inhabited the world of international art. The amalgamation of the Indian and international sensitivities was so perfect in him that he started a Husain language in modern art. That was his biggest strength.

What a sad loss for India that someone of Husain's calibre had to be exiled and had to die away from his home. For someone who loved his country and brought so much honour to his country to be exiled just on the basis of the ire of one small section who were using his name to further their own political propagandist agenda, was sad.

I absolutely believe that any artiste should not hurt the people's sentiments. But one has to make a difference between hurting sentiments and politicizing the issue. It wasn't the aam aadmi who wanted Husain out of the country. I know what a true lover Husain was of India.

Looking back I wish people like me who believed in him should have spoken much more strongly against his exile. We of course made a noise. But not enough.

We should have pursued it more single-mindedly. It was a huge huge tragedy for all of us that an artiste who brought so much glory to our country should have to spend time his final years away from home. Husain loved the fragrances and the festivals of India. He shouldn't have been forced out. I'll have to live with the guilt of knowing he died away from home. ”

I can play any role, even a man: Shefali Shah

I can play any role, even a man: Shefali ShahShe has dabbled with theatre, television and done eye-catching character roles in many noted films, including "Satya" and "Gandhi, My Father", but when the expressive Shefali Shah got to play a lead role in "Kucch Luv Jaisaa" it felt like she was debuting again.

"It's evidently completely opposite of what normally people do. I have reversed my career. I have always done what I have believed in and have stuck to my belief and conviction, which has not been conventional. Doing 'Kucch Luv Jaisaa' was like a debut, " Shefali told.

Shefali forayed into Bollywood with a very small role in "Rangeela" and then went on to do critically acclaimed films like "Satya", "Monsoon Wedding", "15 Park Avenue" and "Gandhi, My Father". However, acting was never on her wish list, it just happened!

"My first brush with acting was when I was 10 years old. I did a play based on omen, about a child who was possessed. My teacher's husband had written the play. But I never thought that I would be an actor some day; it just happened, " she said.

Theatre was her stepping stone into acting.

"Before entering into television, I did theatre for five-six years. After that I moved on to films, " she added. Once she got busy with movie roles, theatre took a backseat for Shefali who returned to the stage last year after 10 years with "Bas Itna Saa Khwaab Hai".

Shefali, who is married to producer Vipul Shah, admits that theatre has tremendously helped in shaping her up as an actor.

"It really challenges you in all your departments as an actor. In films, you have the option to give re-takes or give voice-overs, but in theatre it is your voice that reaches to the audience because beyond fifth row people are not able to see you, " she said.

"There are gestures, remembering dialogues, presence of mind. It drains you, pushes you and challenges you in every aspect as an actor. Theatre has helped me polish myself, " she added.

A role is a role for Shefali. Unlike other actresses, the 36-year-old didn't shy away from playing the characters double her age in films like "Waqt: Race Against Time" and "Gandhi, My Father".

"Actresses do, stars do not. Luckily I am not in the shell mentally. I did it because it is my asset as an actor that I can be anything, I can play any age, any caste, creed, any nationality. If I have to play a man, I would do it. There were never any apprehensions - you want to play diverse roles, " she said.

"Probably it didn't work for me as the industry didn't think so and typecast me, " added the actress whose first proper role in "Satya" won her the Filmfare best supporting actress critics award.

In 2007, Shefali received the national award for her role as Vandana, Amitabh Bachchan's partner in the film "The Last Lear". She even won the best actress award for "Gandhi, My Father" at the Tokyo Film Festival.

"Once I started doing the kind of films I did, I realised this is the kind of work I wanted to do. Every film kind of raised the bar, starting with 'Satya', 'Monsoon Wedding', 'Gandhi, My Father', 'The Last Lear', 'Kuchh Luv Jaisa', it's all very powerful cinema, " she said.

On the small screen, she debuted with "Campus" and later went on to do shows like "Tara", "Banegi Apni Baat", "Kabhie Kabhie" and "Sea Hawks".

Even now she won't mind hosting a talk show, but the actress is in no mood to do television serials.

"A talk show yes, you want me to host I would consider it, but acting in a full-fledged serial, I can't do it, " said Shefali.

"When I used to do television, it used to be weekly. The quality of the product stayed, the storylines were different and everything was consistent. Now it is a daily and the industry has become like a factory, " she added.

After "Kucch Luv Jaisaa", which got mixed response from critics and audiences alike, Shefali is now looking forward to doing roles her age.

"I would still look at the meat in a role, the importance of the role and the film. I will play my age, " she said.

Mahesh Manjrekar turns his attention to theatre

Mahesh Manjrekar turns his attention to theatreThe actor will essay roles of cinema legends in his theatrical tribute

Mahesh Manjrekar, who gave into repeated persuasion by Salman Khan to act in his films (Ready, Dabangg and Bodyguard), has now decided to turn his attention to theatre.

The director will be soon seen paying a theatrical tribute to stalwarts of Indian cinema, both Hindi and Marathi.

Says Mahesh, "Yes, I am planning a series of stage biographies on the masters of Indian cinema."

Starting with V Shantaram and Sudhir Phadke, MM would be playing the lead in all the segments.

"I'm studying the lives of each one in detail before playing the characters, who gave character and personality to our cinema," he further adds.

Taking stock

Says a source, "For too long now, Mahesh has felt a lacuna in our audience in the understanding of how our cinema evolved and who all helped give it its shape.

He has also felt an emptiness inside him as an actor because of the roles he has been doing. It's time for him to take stock of the situation."
